The Day After

What a day we are waking up to!

America has completed an election process that at best was turbulent. Many have been concerned about the America of the future, what it would look like, what values would be protected and what values reset. I for one was watching the results of the election with some concerns but also with a great sense of peace in my deepest heart because I know that,

"our great God and Father neither slumbers or sleeps but keeps a watchful eye on all the affairs of men." - Psalm 121:4

As I awakened this morning I was immediately aware that a song was going off in my heart. We have sung this song many times and the chorus goes like this:

“For we trust in our God,
and through his unchanging love,
we will not be shaken, we will not be shaken, we will not be shaken!”

I knew at that moment it didn’t matter what the results of the election was; we will not be shaken! So that is why I wanted to encourage all of us today that no matter what our personal concerns or bold confidences might be regarding the election, no matter what uncertainties or comfort fills our heart, no matter what the near future holds, we know this… our hope in God is our future! He is our confidence, our solid ground, our stronghold and through His love can be the voice of healing to those in our world.

We live in an area that was deeply stung by the outcome. Many around us will be very disappointed, downcast and angry. Let’s be the ones who comfort with grace, encourage with hope and love with action. We are called to be peacemakers in a time of elevated emotion. Jesus calmed the storm with a word and we should follow His example. Now is the time more than ever to reach out a hand and crush the stereotypes that we as Christians have been given! Let kindness rule our human interactions, and with strong grace let us absorb the reactions of others. It is time for the best of who we are as the people of God and believers in the hope of Jesus to be demonstrated to our world.

Finally I want to ask you to pray for those who are and will be our political leaders. I am praying for President Obama and his wife that they would help President elect Donald Trump with words of wisdom and encouragement. It is no secret that leading this great nation is a difficult and taxing endeavor and the demands are great! Let us obey the Word of God from 1 Timothy 2:1-4...

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, a so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Thank you for shining brightly as a light in our dark world. Especially today and in the coming months. I believe that the best of our days are still ahead of us!

God bless you and may God bless the United States of America!
