“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” - John 14:1-4
Going on vacation is supposed to be a relaxing experience, but we all know that all too often, it’s not. Laying on the beach is relaxing, but the process of getting to the beach usually isn’t. You have to look at your budget and decide where you can go. Find a place to stay. Figure out a way to get there. Decide when you’ll arrive and when you’ll depart. Determine what snacks to bring, shoes to pack, clothes to wear.
Suddenly, vacation becomes one big to-do list, and trying to figure it all out can be time-consuming, overwhelming, and even frustrating. Sometimes, you’ll question if it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
But what if you win an all-inclusive, all-expenses-paid vacation with no strings attached? And someone hands you an itinerary, a plane ticket, a hotel confirmation, and a suggested packing list? All of the sudden, vacation looks a lot more attractive, right? Someone’s prepared a place for you.
Well, that’s what Jesus has done.
He has prepared a place for us in his Father’s house. We don’t have to worry about how to get there, or where we’ll stay, or what to bring. He tells us there’s more than enough room. He tells us that when everything is ready, he will come and get us. He tells us we’ll know the way to where he’s going.
Jesus promises an all-inclusive, all- expenses-paid, unending rest with no strings attached. Our flight won’t leave without us. Our hotel will not be overbooked. He’s taken care of it all. All we have to do is say “yes.”
Jesus has prepared a place for us. Our part is to put our full trust in him – he is, after all, the way, the truth, and the life. When we do, he takes care of the rest.
"Jesus, thank you for laying down your life, for being the way, the truth, and the life. Thank you for preparing a place for me. I pray you’ll give me the courage to say “yes,” to follow in your footsteps and find my place in the Father’s house."
Think of someone in your life who needs to know there’s a place prepared for them. Someone, who feels like they don’t have a place to call home, a place to belong – now and forever? Pray for that person today. Pray that as a church, we’ll make room for them and for thousands of others like them to hear the life-giving message of Jesus Christ. Pray they make it home.
